Export Jira issues into a Company Brain — the ownership map
Jira knows who owns what better than any document does. The brain reads the structure of the issues — projects, assignees, reporters, components, who answered — and leaves the ticket prose where it is.
What a Jira export holds — and what the brain makes of it
From the issue navigator, filter the projects you want and export to CSV with all fields (large projects export in 1000-row pages — repeat and drop them all in). The brain builder reads projects as organizations, assignees and reporters as people with per-project ownership tags, components and labels as the technology map, and comment authors as who-answers-what signal. Ticket titles and descriptions are never imported.
For a Company Brain the Jira export is the answer to "who owns this". When the person who held the payments component leaves, the brain still shows who reported to them, who commented on their tickets and who took the component over.

How to export your Jira data
The exact clicks, as they are today. Platforms move menus; the engine’s source docs are updated when they do.
- 01
Issue navigator → filter the project(s)
- 02
Export → CSV (all fields) — repeat per 1000-row page if large
- 03
Drop the archive on Jira in Studio’s Sources — or tell Claude Code or Codex “build my brain from this”. The source is detected by itself, even inside a combined archive.
Then, next month
An export is a snapshot. Drop a newer one and press Update: your edits and _notes/ are kept, and the update report says what changed.
Then ask it
What you can ask a brain built from Jira
Examples, not promises: the answer is whatever your notes hold, and every answer cites the notes it came from. The more exports you add, the more these questions cross sources.
- Who owns the billing component, and who answered the most questions about it?
- Which projects has this person worked on, and with whom?
- Which components have no active owner since last quarter?
limitStructure and ownership only — the brain cannot tell you what a ticket said, only who it belonged to and who touched it.
Good to know
The honest answers.
Is the ticket text in the brain? No. Ticket prose is never imported; the brain keeps projects, people, components, labels and comment authorship.
Why export in pages? Jira caps a CSV export at 1000 rows. Export each page and drop them all in; the brain merges them into one Jira source.
