Is Second Brain Studio free? Yes — desktop, browser and phone, in every plan including self-host. Bring your own AI, or run Claude Code or Codex on your computer.
Personal or Company? Personal builds your own digital twin from your exports. Company builds a shared Company Brain from your team’s exports, with seats and the GBrain output.
Usage
Three meters and a flat monthly fee for hosting. Locally, none of this applies: building and storing a brain on your own computer costs nothing.

Monthly or yearly? Both. Yearly saves about 20%: Cloud Personal drops to $7 a month, Cloud Company to from $39. When the cloud opens you can cancel any time.
What exactly is usage-based? Building compute when we build or rebuild a brain from your exports, storage beyond the included 5 GB, and AI tokens only if you use our model instead of your own.
The promise
We charge for work and accountability — never for your data, never for the features.
Will features move behind a paywall later? No. The core is MIT-licensed — it can’t be taken back. The business is services and enterprise work on top of the open core. The repository

Your data
The cloud runs the same open brain builder, and a brain is plain Markdown, so nothing is locked in at any step.
Does my data ever leave my machine? Only if you choose the cloud. Self-hosting makes zero network calls in the build — that never changes. In the cloud, your exports will go to your own encrypted workspace, and you will be able to export every file or delete the workspace at any time.
Can I switch between self-host and cloud? Yes, both ways. Export the brain and keep self-hosting, or upload your exports and move into the cloud.
