Is Second Brain Studio free?
Yes — Studio (web & desktop) is free in every plan, including self-host. Browse your graph, edit notes, and chat with your brain at no cost; bring your own AI key or run Claude Code / Codex locally.
What's free vs. paid?
The whole open-source engine, the Agent Skill, and Studio are free forever on your machine — local seeding and storage cost nothing. The only paid part is the optional cloud: we host your vault and bring the compute that seeds & keeps it fresh.
Monthly or yearly?

Personal vs. Company — which plan?
Personal builds your own digital twin from your exports. Company bootstraps a shared Company Brain from your team's data, with seats, GBrain output, and the v2 agentic twin first. Use the switch above to see each.
Does my data ever leave my machine?
Only if you choose cloud. Self-hosting makes zero network calls — that never changes. On cloud plans you upload your exports to your own encrypted workspace; we seed and host the brain there, and you can export every file or delete the workspace at any time.
What exactly is usage-based?
Three meters, no surprises: seeding compute when we build or rebuild a brain from your exports, storage beyond the included 5 GB, and AI tokens only if you use our model instead of connecting your own. Hosting itself is the flat monthly fee.
Can I switch between self-host and cloud?
Yes, in both directions. The cloud runs the same open engine and the brain is plain Markdown — export it and keep self-hosting, or upload your exports and move into the cloud. No lock-in at any step.
Will features move behind a paywall later?
No. The core is MIT-licensed — it can't be taken back. Our business is services and enterprise work on top of the open core, not gating it.
How does enterprise licensing work?
MIT already permits commercial use. Enterprise agreements add what legal teams need: indemnification, an SLA, a DPA, security review, and custom development — talk to us.
